What is this latest craze of upsell, downsell, crosssell and oversell that’s going on in the Internet Marketing industry?
Guru’s have gone completely over the top on all this stuff. Your credit card is hardly cooled off and it’s time for another swipe. You can’t possibly implement even a small portion of the information you just received when there is another email loaded with bonuses leering from your inbox.
There oughta be a law for these guys that keeps them at bay for at least thirty days from the time you purchase one of their products as well as a limit of one upsell per webpage.
The other day by the time I got through the third upsell sales page I honestly could not recall what it was I bought in the first place. It’s almost like they are trying to outdo eachother with this add on technique.
As an aside here….If you do get pulled into this swirling sales vortex make sure you make a copy of the sales pages you buy from so you have a reference down the road of what you bought.
Just because the buying frenzie psychology works and can shovel an extra couple hundred bucks into a Guru’s pocket doesn’t mean this is desirable marketing in the long run.
The trainee gets burnt out without successful results. They move on and are unsubscribed . The Pr Principle here that must be addressed is “how to maintain a sustained lifelong relationship” This type of marketing is flash in the pan and good Public Relations are not being built.
Why not give the client room to breath and make some rational decisions about the training content and tools being provided? As for us, in the consumer world of Internet Marketing training products?
Four words will solve most of our problems.
Buy Less! Implement More!
Also, remember when it’s your turn to add that upsell…be kind, be thoughtful and remember this PR Principle. A long term, happy, satisfied customer is the only way to build a sustainable marketplace for your business.
I thought I would offer this bit of music nostalgia for those with a few minutes to listen. Have a Super Day.
One sure way to make somebody feel good is to send them
an unexpected card in the mail
A quick story.
I was a young person growing up and had
just been living on my own for a short time.
I missed home and I missed home cooking.
Financially I was making my way OK but had lots of new bills.
One morning I got up and there was a letter
lying on the floor, over by the door.
It had come through my mail slot.
It was a card from my dear ol’ Dad …and wasn’t it great
to hear news from home and know somebody was
thinking about you.
Well, the surprise in that card
was A Fifty Dollar bill.
That made my day for sure.
Pr Principle here is…..
Want somebody to like you a lot?
Send them a card.
Want them to love ya?
Put some Money In The Mail
There is always such an uproar when somebody starts talking about cold calling. Why’s and How’s and Why nots fly like lightning bolts in a Summer Kansas Storm. Where does all this excitement come from and waht PR Principle is at play here?
1. What I see first of all is , What is the #1 Best reason to make a cold call? Out of the blue the phone rings and it’s someone you haven’t heard from in a long time. The gift of surprise is one of the quickest ways to turn any proposal into an opportunity. I’ve seen the coldest hearts melt when the heat of an unexpected call is applied.
2. The Phone is a safe haven for both parties. Remember the old party lines? Where you were never sure who was going to be listening in. You could always tell half the neighbourhood was online when the volume dropped. Today, there is privacy and unlike the internet, unless they got ya tapped, there’s an intimacy level that can be reached that lets you slide behind the other persons desk and ask him if he’s ready for show and tell. And they can always escape…just as easily, so it’s a fair jungle to work in.
3. No one said it would be easy…The whole thing about cold calls is..that you take the heat ..so the other guy can have it easy. The # 3 reason that the Phone was made for business and the main PR Principle at work here is you can “Deal From Strength” . You now have the power to control the conversation. You’re the one that picked up the phone and paid the price of initiation. Like we say in the free Bigness Priniples report. The first thing you can do to start a business from absolute zero is to pick up the phone and give a friendly call to somebody who you know that would appreciate an unexpected call. Reach out first and feel the power of making somebody’s day just by saying hello in person over the phone. Try it, you’ll like it.
Take a break and listen to this old timer. The phone rules.
Lots of times we need a pick me up when we are trying to stay focused on a project. Coffee is the old standby for a caffeine fix that keeps us on track with some creative energy.
Most of the concentration that comes from caffeine is short lived and physiologically can put real creativity in a bottle. I have found that a solid rhythmic piece of instrumental music is great to use as a change up with the coffee. It doesn’t crash out and the external stimulus can be used to keep a creative spirit around for a good extended period.
What is a suitable piece of music? There has been research done that puts Classical music ahead of most modern popular music but the key is in the rhythm. Something that is familiar but has enough deviation to keep the mind refreshed. How about this American Classical for ya.
